Visual Design

For this project, the brief allowed us to select a character rooted in Scottish mythology and history, but with the creative freedom to set the story in any time period—whether in the past, present, or future. This flexibility opened up exciting opportunities to merge traditional storytelling with modern and futuristic concepts.

After carefully researching Scottish folklore, I chose to center my narrative around a lesser-known character who embodied the rich cultural heritage of Scotland. Drawing on my storytelling skills, I reimagined the character in a futuristic setting, blending ancient myth with a high-tech dystopia. This fusion of genres allowed me to explore unique narrative elements, building a story that was both grounded in history and speculative about the future.

My approach focused on preserving the core essence of the mythological figure, but I adapted their traits and abilities to the futuristic world I envisioned. This process required a deep understanding of the character's background, symbolism, and relevance in Scottish folklore, which I then integrated into the futuristic landscape, maintaining authenticity while creating an original and dynamic story.

I utilized my skills in concept design and world-building to craft this future version of Scotland, paying attention to both visual storytelling and narrative depth. From character design to setting development, I ensured that every element of the project served the story, weaving mythical elements with advanced technologies to create an immersive environment.

In addition, I leveraged my skills in illustration and visual design to bring the character to life, creating detailed sketches and digital mock-ups. Using Adobe Creative Suite, I developed mood boards, concept art, and key visual scenes that illustrated the character's journey in this new time period. I also applied storyboarding techniques to map out the sequence of events, highlighting the interplay between the ancient and the futuristic.

Ultimately, this project was an exciting exercise in creative storytelling, allowing me to combine my passion for mythology, world-building, and visual design while pushing the boundaries of how historical characters can be reinterpreted for a modern or futuristic audience.

The story I created is based on the story of Sawney Bean:

Alexandra and her family have a spell on them which makes them turn into cannibal vampires as soon as the clock of the castle strikes at midnight. During the day no one suspects of her and she lives a very high standard life, going to all the balls and events held in the castle with princes and princesses from all reigns of Scotland; her charm will make the prince of Stirling fall in love with her. He is totally in love with her, and would help her doing anything; her long dark brown hair and green eyes and her rose skin hypnotise him. The prince finds out that she is the evil creature that the king wants to kill, but as he loves her he manages to steal the potion and give it to Alexandra. It is only when Alexandra gets it that she finds out that it can only save one person. In the meantime the guardians of the castle saw the prince giving her the potion, so the King follows them where they live to capture the family and execute them. He gives them the chance to get one person saved by the potion. But at that point Alexandra decides that does not want to live a life without a family who died to save her, not even for a very strong love bond with the prince. The King decides to execute them all, and the prince decides he wants to be executed as well as he could not live a life without the love of his life.
