Environmental Risk
The meaning behind it
Environmental risk is a multifaceted concept that extends far beyond the natural landscape. It encompasses every action we take, everything we observe, and every belief we hold. It represents the interconnectedness between human behavior, political decisions, and natural processes, revealing how these forces collectively shape the environment around us.
In my work, I focused on developing a deeper awareness of environmental risk and understanding its complex nature. I explored how various actors contribute to environmental degradation and destruction, including politicians, individuals, and nature itself. By examining these interrelationships, I aimed to shed light on how critical it is to recognize the power we each hold in affecting positive environmental change.
To further this awareness, I created an Instagram page, @environmentalrisk, to document instances in my daily life that exemplified environmental destruction and, on the flip side, moments of hopefulness for a more sustainable world. Through photography, visual storytelling, and thoughtful curation, I sought to engage a wider audience by showcasing both the consequences of neglecting environmental concerns and the potential for positive change.
Additionally, I maintained an environmental diary where I delved deeper into my reflections, exploring the connections between human activity and environmental impact. This allowed me to not only document what I saw but also provide analysis and insights on the broader implications of environmental risk.
This project highlights my skills in content creation, environmental analysis, and visual storytelling. I utilized design thinking to present complex ideas in an accessible and engaging format, combining photography, graphic design, and research to raise awareness of critical environmental issues. My approach integrated strategic communication and a deep commitment to social and environmental responsibility, aiming to inspire action and encourage a mindset shift towards sustainability.
Environmental Risk in more depth
The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the profound global significance of risk communication, an issue with acute urgency that parallels the chronic threat of climate change. While both crises can be significantly influenced by effective risk communication strategies, the challenge lies in how these messages are perceived and acted upon.
This project delves into the communication of risk, specifically focusing on Covid-19 and how it has been conveyed, perceived, and approached across the globe. Drawing parallels between the strategies used to communicate the risks of Covid-19 and the ongoing crisis of climate change, the project seeks to apply these insights to foster greater understanding and action on environmental issues.
The project consists of a series of articles designed for online platforms and social media, aiming to make the complex topic of risk communication more engaging and accessible, particularly for young adults. The content is crafted to not only raise awareness of Covid-19 but also to inspire ethical behavior and proactive responses. The same communication approach is intended to be applied to broader global challenges, like climate change, encouraging the adoption of sustainable and responsible practices.
Through strategic content creation and visual storytelling, I leveraged risk communication theories and digital marketing skills to effectively share information on Covid-19's impact on environmental change. The project was primarily tailored for an audience of 18 to 35-year-olds, employing user-centered design and social media strategies to ensure the message resonated with and engaged this demographic.
In this work, I utilized my skills in digital content creation, social media management, environmental communication, and risk analysis to promote awareness and inspire positive action.
